Montgomery YMCA Hires New Director of Soccer!

The Montgomery YMCA is excited to announce the hiring of Manny Sanchez as its new Director of Soccer.  Manny comes to us with over 25 years of soccer experience as a professional player, a coach, a DOC and the Executive Director of Tennessee State Soccer Association.  He holds a USSF “A” license and a UEFA “A” Intro license.  In 2002 he was named the Tennessee Soccer Boys Coach of the Year when the two teams he coached won a combined eleven tournament Championships and ended the year with a record of 50-7-5.  Manny has been a frequent author of articles on youth soccer and coaching for the Soccer Journal.

Manny will assume his duties on June 1, 2012.  We would like to welcome Manny and we look forward to the great things that he will bring to soccer here in the Capital City!

Tryouts for the Capital City Streaks will be held at the YMCA soccer complex on June, 4th, 5th, and 7th.  Preregistration can be done at www.ymcamontgomery.org.

Capital City Streaks Fall Tryouts

The Montgomery YMCA and the Capital City Streaks would like to announce thier Fall 2012 Tryouts!

June 4th, 5th, & 7th

Boys/Girls ages 8-12 as of August 1, 2012 5:30-7:00pm
Boys/Girls ages 13-18 as of August 1, 2012 7:00-8:30pm

Tryout Fee: $20 per player

Players can pre-register at www.ymcamontgomery.org

All players trying out for the Montgomery YMCA Capital City Streaks should bring the following:

  • Water Bottle
  • Soccer Cleats
  • Appropriate Soccer Attire
  • Age Appropriate Soccer Ball

Players are expected to attend all sessions of the tryouts.  If a player can not attend all sessions please notify the Director of Soccer at (334) 396-9754

Tryouts will be held at the Montgomery YMCA Soccer Complex located at:

Capital City Streaks U12 Boys-2012 State Champions!

The Capital City Streaks U12 Boys took home a championship medal at the 2012 AYSA State Cup May 4th-6th in Decatur, AL. The boys had a rough start, losing 1-0 to Blast from Fairhope in their first game, and tying 3-3 with United Soccer Club from Huntsville in their 2nd game. Net goal differential landed the Streaks in the semi-finals where they beat BUSA 3-2 in overtime, sending them to the final game Sunday afternoon to face Blast from Fairhope for the 2nd time in this tournament. The Streaks came out on top defeating Blast 4-2. Congratulations to the 2012 AYSA State Cup Champions!

Capital City Streaks U10 Boys-Orange Beach Shootout Finalist

The Capital City Streaks U-10 boys took home the Finalist medal at the Orange Beach Soccer Shoot Out March 17th& 18th.  This tournament proved to be a great start to their short Spring season, and it gave their new players a chance to get used to the team set up.  It was the boys first tournament in the highest competition bracket, but they did an excellent job under Head Coach, Henrique Rizzo, against a very seasoned Louisiana Chicago Fire team.   Good job Streaks!

Capital City Streaks U12 Boys-Orange Beach Shootout Finalist

The Capital City Streaks Boys U12 team traveled to Orange Beach March 17-18 to play in the Orange Beach Shootout. In the first two rounds of the tournament the Streaks played teams from Florida, Mississippi and Alabama. Their hard work advanced them to the finals. After being down one goal for most of the second half, the team scored with less than a minute to go, tying up the game. After overtimes play, the game remained tied, leading to a shootout. After 9 penalty kicks by each team, the Streaks lost the hard fought battle by one. We are so proud of all the boys whose determination and “never-say-die” attitude led them to be finalists in the tournament.
